Eyebrows || Ashley White

Eyebrows.
The pinnacle of the human forehead.
And mine… are white.

The kids I wanted so badly to be friends with in the fourth grade were the first to point it out.
And I responded the way mama taught me — with pride.

“Yeah they’re white, ya jerks. What’s unique about YOUR forehead?”

I learned to be expressive with these ghost brows of mine. I learned to name what I was feeling and how to get it out so I wouldn’t give into the fear of my own invisibility.

But then one day a woman I couldn’t relate to much put make up on my face. And when I looked in the mirror, it was if I was looking at the girl who’d been living my stories with me all those years.

She raised a brow…and I shed a tear.
